Dr. Yehoshua Granat

 

Dr Yehoshua Granat is a scholar of Hebrew verse and Jewish liturgy of Late Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Early Modern period, with a special expertise in the study of Piyyut: Hebrew and Aramaic liturgical poetry. Dr Granat did all his academic degrees at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and was subsequently a Yad Hanadiv postdoctoral fellow at Oxford University and later on a member of the Martin Buber Society of Fellows.

Psalms Recalled: Scriptural Psalms in the Liturgical Poetry of Yoseph Ibn Abitur, Dr Granat’s first monograph, was awarded the 2024 Ben-Zvi Award. His second monograph is Before ‘In the Beginning’: Pre-Existence in Early Piyyut. His articles were published in scholarly journals and collections, in Hebrew, English and Spanish. Beyond the academic field as such, Yehoshua is committed to contributing in his fields of expertise to the wider public as well. A selection of his publications is available here.
