Special Programs

The Translation Track
The track is intended primarily for undergraduate and graduate students in all the literature departments of the Faculty of Humanities. Its purpose is to train researchers of translation and literary translators into Hebrew, in both prose and poetry. The track covers three areas: the history of literary translation into Hebrew, translation theory, and translation practice. The portraits of leading writers cannot be considered complete without a discussion of their activity in the field of translation—an endeavor that has often brought about a transformation both in their own works and in Hebrew literature as a whole.
The Creative Writing Program
The program is offered as part of undergraduate studies in the Departments of Hebrew Literature, General and Comparative Literature, and within the Creative Writing Track of the General B.A.
Unlike one-time writing workshops, the Creative Writing Program at the Hebrew University offers a structured, multi-year framework that accompanies writers’ development over time and forms an integral part of their literary studies.
Scholarships and Prizes
Every year, a variety of scholarships and awards are granted to students of the department, such as:
- The Israel Efrat Prize: for an outstanding undergraduate student.
- The Yehuda Burla Prize: for a Hebrew literature student who has written a paper in the field of Eastern Jewish culture.
- The Bargraf Prize: for a Doctoral student in Hebrew literature.
- The Yaakov Hurvitz Prize: for an undergraduate or graduate student in modern Hebrew literature.
